Ken Schaafsma is a resident of Costa Rica where he resides full time with his wife, Michele and sons Nicholas and Colton. Ken and Michele are originally from Michigan, USA and first came to Costa Rica for a romantic wedding and honeymoon vacation. They were married on the beach at sunset surrounded by tropical flowers and blue morpho butterflies. The entire experience was so amazing that Costa Rica became embedded into us. We were blown away by Costa Rica's natural beauty, the beaches, the oceans, the lush green tropical surroundings and most of all we were blown away by the friendliness and inner beauty of the Costa Rican people. We returned to a cold, February Michigan winter and couldn't get the thought of Costa Rica out of our minds. We were totally crazy about Costa Rica. We returned to Costa Rica a couple of months later to see if we would still like it without all of the wedding and honeymoon bliss. Costa Rica was everything we had thought it was on our first trip and left after two weeks with a definite plans for making a move.

To summarize, we did a lot of research and spent many hours analyzing the situation. After several months, we hadn't talked ourselved out of a possible move. We defined success and failure as the following. Success was moving to Costa Rica, hating it and returning back to the US a few months later. Failure was never going to Costa Rica, but wishing we had and telling our children and grandchildren in the future about how we had dreams to move to Costa Rica, but didn't act on them. In summary, several years have passed and we love Costa Rica more and more every day. Our children were born here and we are raising them in Costa Rica.

Ken's hobbies include deep sea fishing, mountain biking, hiking, traveling, reading, exploring Costa Rica's many beaches and towns and spending time with my family.
