Pat Halpern

Real Estate is my second career, following 25 years as a teacher. Born and educated on the mainland, Hawaii has been home since 1965 when I first came to Hilo to train for Peace Corp/Thailand. Following a few years with Peace Corps as a Volunteer and then on staff I met and married Gil Halpern who was born and raised in Honolulu. We made our home on Oahu until 1987 when we happily relocated to Hilo with our two sons, Casey & Joel. Casey is currently Executive Chef at one of Hilo's top restaurants, Cafe Pesto. He and his wife, Myra, are parents to my 4 grandchildren. Soccer anyone? Joel and his wife, Pili, split their year between work in NYC and their native plant greenhouse in Volcano.
In 1989 I became a full time Realtor and have continued striving to better serve my clients by receiving my Broker's license in 1993, and then qualifying for the GRI(Graduate Realtor's Institute) and CRS(Certified Residential Specialist) designations.

I have helped people buy and sell property all over the Big Island. I work out of Hilo and am very familiar with property in and around Hilo as well as in the Volcano area where I now live.

BA Degree from Colorado State University, 1965. Taught English as a Foreigh Language for Peace Corps/Thailand and srved as a Teacher Trainer for Peace Corps as well as the Defense Language Institute, Saigon, South Vietnam.
1971-1989, received Montessori Teacher Certification and worked as a school owner, school Director and Teacher Trainer for Chaminade University.
1989-present, work full time as a Realtor and have received the designations of Broker, GRI and CRS. Have served the local Board on the Education Committee, Secretary for Board of Directors, Chair of Grievance Committee and am currently serving on The Professional Standards Committee.
2007-2010-Served on the Board of the Volcano Community Assoc.
