Joe Simpkins is a native Tennessean from Franklin, where he grew up in a rural community called Grassland.
Joe played football at Franklin High School 4 years, ran the 100 yard dash & the 440 yard relay on the track team. He also served as the Vice-President of the Student Body during his senior year.
Joe became interested in Amateur Radio during his early years. He has held an Extra Class license since 1982. (That’s the highest license issued by the FCC to “ham operators"). He is also a leader in his local ham radio group, having served several terms as President. He is currently the System Operator for the Carolina DX Association for a network of local & worldwide “hams” connected by the internet & local radio links.
He attended Georgia Tech & the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he met his son’s mom. His son is now serving as an ordained Lutheran Pastor in Knoxville, TN.
As a US Air Force pilot, Joe flew worldwide transport missions, then retired from the military after 21 years duty as a Lt Colonel & Aircraft Commander flying C-130 Transport aircraft.
Next Joe spent 22 years carrying passengers on Piedmont Airlines, which became US Airways over time.
He is Captain rated in the military C-130A/E/H as well as the Fokker F-100, Boeing 737/757/767 & Airbus 319/320/321 civilian aircraft.
Joe retired as a pilot in 2007 and focuses now on his roots as a full time real estate broker. He was first licensed in the real estate business in 1974, & holds a Broker license in Tennessee, North Carolina & South Carolina.
He served as President of the Nashville Young Realty Group in Tennessee, and came from a real estate family as both his parents were Realtors.
He is a graduate of the National Association of Realtors advanced school for Realtors, & holds the designation of Graduate of Realtor Institute (GRI), & has recently earned the designation of Certified Internet Professional (e-PRO).
He has also built over 22 single family homes in addition to commercial property remodeling in his General Contracting business.
Joe & his wife, Gina, call Charlotte home after living here since 1990. They have been blessed with two wonderful grandsons.
